Henry Lannigan

                                                                                   Henry Hayden "Pop" Lannigan
                                                                               1863 - 1930

Known during his time as "the life and spirit of University of Virginia Athletics," "Pop" Lannigan came to the University of Virginia in 1905 as associate director of athletics and remained an integral part of University sports until 1929. During his tenure he improved the track program and introduced boxing and basketball. In 1957 Henry Haden Lannigan, whose basketball teams won 290 of 380 games was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.  The Lannigan family owned a summer house with frontage on the shore of Parker Pond, where he ran a training camp for his athletic teams.  His daughter was author Helen Caldwell Cushman.
