Vienna Historical Society
Preserving the History of Vienna and Mount Vernon, Maine

Farmington Fair 2008

During 2008, the historical society published a new edition of Beverly Wight Smith's Turning Back:  Stories of Mount Vernon and Vienna, and we used that as our theme for the fair.

Note the framed wreath in the middle of the display.  This is a Mourning Wreath made of human hair from the Victorian Era.  The ladies of the day saved hair and wove it into all types of jewelry and displays.  This particular one is a tribute to a departed one and displays her photo in the center.  We first displayed this item at the 2006 fair and have had many requests to bring this item to the fair again, and again.
Beverly's book is prominently featured along with
   a display of antique items.
